Clim’Ability Care at the Plenary Session of the Upper Rhine Council

The Interreg Clim’Ability Care Project Presented at the Plenary Session of the Upper Rhine Council – Offenburg, 6 June 2025

On 6 June 2025, the Upper Rhine Council held its plenary session in Offenburg, under the theme: “Joining Forces for a Strong Europe in the Upper Rhine Region”. This meeting brought several key issues of cross-border cooperation to the forefront, with a strong emphasis on climate change and public health.

A Key Project for Climate Resilience in the Upper Rhine

In this context, the Interreg Clim’Ability Care project was presented as a significant example of cross-border cooperation aimed at strengthening the region’s climate resilience.
The presentation, entitled “Clim’Ability, INTERREG V & VI: Ten Years of Investment in Supporting SMEs in Adapting to Climate Change in the Upper Rhine Region”, was delivered by Professor Dr. Florence Rudolf, scientific coordinator of the project (Laboratory AMUP – INSA Strasbourg).
She provided an overview of a decade of concrete actions undertaken in collaboration with businesses to help them anticipate and manage the impacts of climate change across the Upper Rhine region.

Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation to Tackle Climate Challenges

The Upper Rhine Council emphasized the importance of reinforcing cross-border institutions based in Kehl/Strasbourg, which have long been the backbone of cooperation between France, Germany and Switzerland, and play a crucial role in everyday life in the region.

The Council also highlighted the need for enhanced coordination on climate and health issues, the development of green infrastructure, the implementation of services adapted to extreme heat events, and greater support for cross-border research and prevention.
These recommendations strongly align with the objectives of the Clim’Ability Care project.

Recognition of Concrete Action

The participation of Clim’Ability Care in the plenary session of the Upper Rhine Council illustrates the importance of practical, operational initiatives in European regional cooperation dynamics.
It reflects recognition of the work carried out in the field to build a more resilient, sustainable and united Upper Rhine region.
We sincerely thank the members of the Upper Rhine Council for their continued commitment to shared solutions in the face of environmental challenges in the region.
