Final Colloquium Clim’Ability Care

10 years of commitment to climate resilience in the Upper Rhine region

On 27 April 2026, the Interreg project Clim’Ability came to a close after more than 10 years with an eventful colloquium.

Following the two project phases Clim’Ability (2016–2019) and Clim’Ability Design (2019–2023), the third phase, Clim’Ability Care, has now also come to an end. Together with the Interreg project CRANE, a joint exchange and results day took place on 27 April 2026 at the ‘Ateliers Éclairés’ in the heart of Strasbourg’s Rhine harbour.

Together with all participating project partners, invited experts and many other guests, we enjoyed an exciting review of 10 years of supporting businesses with climate adaptation. Particularly in the final project phase, the focus was on developing a ‘culture of care’ in the face of climate risks. The numerous tools, information materials and media outputs produced were also presented once again.

A dual perspective on climate adaptation

This event marked an important milestone in cross-border cooperation in the Upper Rhine region. It brought together two complementary projects to address the challenges of climate change: alongside Clim’Ability Care, CRANE also presented its findings, focusing on the technical resilience of port infrastructure, the hydrological development of the Rhine and adaptation strategies for the Rhine ports.

A varied programme

The morning featured specialist presentations and panel discussions: following a welcome address by the management of the Port of Strasbourg (PAS) and the Grand Est region, there were
scientific analyses on hydrology and climate risks by the BfG and Fraunhofer IAIS.
This was followed by a panel discussion with the directors of the ports of Strasbourg, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Swiss Rhine ports. Finally, the awareness-raising and support tools for businesses and industry developed during Clim’Ability Care were presented.

The afternoon focused on practical experience: two excursions – by bus or by boat – provided an opportunity to explore specific adaptation measures:

During a boat trip, participants observed heat-related vulnerabilities at locks and explored the Franco-German fireboat. Meanwhile, the bus tour visited container terminals and took a ‘climate walk’ through newly landscaped areas.

In glorious weather, this sparked a lively exchange, which continued during a convivial get-together at the end of the day.

A successful conclusion to a long collaboration that has borne much fruit!
