A measurement campaign was conducted on the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg by Météo France to illustrate a concrete case of the urban heat island phenomenon. During a very early and intense heat peak in mid-June 2022, temperature and humidity measurements were carried out at several specific locations.
The phenomenon was clearly visible at night with temperature differences of several degrees between downtown Strasbourg and the Illkirch innovation park, located less than 7kms away.
