On October 18, 2024, as part of the INTERREG Upper Rhine Clim’Ability Care cross-border project, over 40 participants from France and Germany gathered to visit the Port Autonome de Strasbourg (PAS) pilot site. As France’s second largest river port and a key partner in the project, PAS plays a key role in climate change adaptation efforts by supporting local enterprises in the Upper Rhine region.
Organized by the Port Autonome de Strasbourg in collaboration with the Agence du Climat, the Guichet des Solutions and ADEUS, the day was an opportunity to discover the concrete initiatives implemented by PAS to adapt to climate change.
Course of the day
The morning began with a visit to the Port Autonome de Strasbourg pilot site. Participants learned about the project’s roadmap and the first results of initiatives undertaken by PAS to strengthen the resilience of its infrastructures in the face of climate challenges.
Afterwards, participants visited the SOPREMA France site, where they were able to observe exemplary adaptation solutions: vegetated roofs filtering grey water, and a large pond dedicated to biodiversity. These developments demonstrate how sustainable initiatives can make an effective contribution to preserving water resources and the environment.
The afternoon continued with a “climate walk” in the Coop area, where participants were shown the local risks of climate change and solutions to reduce urban heat islands. The day ended at the ADEUS offices, with exchanges on the progress of projects at the various pilot sites.
Next steps in the Clim’Ability Care project
To help enterprises adapt to new climatic challenges, the Clim’Ability Care project is planning to launch a call for interest for companies interested in adapting to extreme summer heat, as well as the organization of a multi-stakeholder workshop to develop a territorial adaptation strategy for the Port of Strasbourg.
We would like to thank all our partners for their contributions, and the Port Autonome de Strasbourg for its welcome and commitment to this essential initiative.
